As Enter Sandman by Metallica boomed throughout Citi Field in New York on Tuesday, the Yankees closer got a standing ovation and saluted those who have only dreamed of having a career as illustrious as No. 42.
The 43-year-old had just entered the game from the bullpen and was making his 13th and final appearance in the MLB All-Star Game. And the fans knew they were witnessing a piece of baseball history.
After a lengthy applause -- fellow players included -- Rivera went to work and sat down three straight hitters on just 16 pitches en route to being named MLB All-Star Game MVP in the American League's 3-0 win.
