Vote: Did the NHL get the new division names right?

Posted on 07:22 by Unknown

Fans were either venting their frustrations or singing the praises of the NHL after the new division names for the 2013-14 season were unveiled on Friday.

Many were riled up about the use of three geographical terms and one that was quite vague - Metropolitan.

Here are some of the ideas put forth on social media for the NHL's consideration:

  1. Go back to traditional division names. The Patrick and Adams Divisions in the East, and the Norris and Smythe Divisions in the West. It's simple and it has worked before.
  2. Use new names to label the divisions. The same idea as above, but with a focus on past superstar players. Perhaps something along the lines of the Orr, Lemieux, Howe and Gretzky Divisions?

  3. Keep Pacific, Central and Atlantic, but trash Metropolitan. Some fans took issue with three geographic names, and one all-encompassing (yet vague) term to group many of the old Atlantic and Southeast Division teams.

So, what do you think of the Pacific, Central, Atlantic and Metropolitan names? Are they fine as they are, or could the NHL have used one of the other options above?

Vote in our poll and have your say!

What's your take on the new NHL division names?
